2020 Commencement Dinner
Australia’s Innovation and Science System in 2020
It was approximately four years ago that the Federal Government launched the “National Innovation and Science Agenda”, initiating a burst of intense policy activity and a national conversation about innovation and science and its role in modern Australia. This coincided with rapidly growing awareness of the burgeoning startup community and the increasing role of digitisation in our economy, but also with growing fears about automation and the future of work, and increasing concern about how the fruits of economic growth were being distributed. Four years on, Charlie will discuss the current state of our science and innovation system, reflecting on how far we’ve come as well as identifying some themes that are likely to be prominent in 2020.
